Former Ohio State Buckeye Linebacker Chris Spielman Plans Northwest Ohio Visit to Support Breast Care Center

PERRYSBURG, OH--(Marketwire - June 24, 2010) -  Former NFL and Ohio State University Buckeye linebacker Chris Spielman will speak at an event in northwest Ohio on July 14 to support The Toledo Hospital (TTH) Breast Care Center, a member of ProMedica Health System. The Putting Classic will be held at Belmont Country Club, located at 29601 Bates Road in Perrysburg, to raise funds for patient care services at the breast care center. Spielman, a devoted advocate for women's breast health, will talk about his late wife's courageous 10-year battle with breast cancer. Stefanie Spielman died in November 2009.

"We are extremely honored to have Mr. Spielman as our special guest to share his personal story and offer some encouraging words," says Robin Shermis, MD, TTH Breast Care Center medical director.

According to the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the breast cancer incidence rate for northwest Ohio is among the highest in the state.

"The more women we reach, the more lives we will save and make a difference in this fight," says Spielman.

TTH Breast Care Center offers comprehensive support, treatment and services for breast cancer patients. It offers state-of-the-art technology, including Ohio's only accredited Dedicated Breast MRI System, and digital mammography. The center's team of specialists includes board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists, technologists and specialized registered nurse breast health navigators.

"Centers like ours are helping to save lives by offering cutting-edge treatments and increasing awareness about the importance of early screening," says Shermis.
