Fortress Channel Trenching Intercepts 43.5 Metres Grading 15.09 g/t Gold at Svetloye Project Russia

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 8, 2009) - Fortress Minerals Corp. ("Fortress") (TSX VENTURE:FST) is pleased to announce the latest results from trench sampling at the Amy and Elena prospects, Svetloye Project, Russia. All samples were acquired by rock-sawing continuous channel samples. Results from the Amy channel sampling program include PDTR-A25 that intercepted 43.5 metres (from 0.0 to 43.5 metres) grading (uncut) 15.09 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and a cut grade of 2.91 g/t gold (reducing assays in excess of 30 g/t to 30 g/t) including 20.0 metres (from 0.0 to 20.0 metres) grading (uncut) 32.37 g/t gold and a cut grade of 5.87 g/t. In addition, PDTR-A22 also emplaced at Amy, intercepted 66.8 metres (from -12.0 to 54.8 metres) grading (uncut) 3.81 g/t gold and a cut grade of 1.75 g/t including 6.0 metres (from -12 to -6 metres) grading 35.25 g/t gold uncut (12.31 g/t cut). At the Elena Prospect, significant results include PDTR-E1-1 that intercepted 94.0 metres (from 0.0 to 94.0 metres) grading 2.17 g/t gold including 24.0 metres (from 64.0 to 88.0 metres) grading 5.07 g/t gold. In addition, PDTR-E2 also emplaced at Elena, returned 66.3 metres (from 59.7 to 126.0 metres) grading 2.06 g/t gold including 3.6 metres (from 76.0 to 79.6 metres) grading 22.19 g/t gold. Please see below table for complete results.

The Svetloye Project consists of nine prospects that occur over a linear distance of eight kilometres. Prior to the 2009 drilling program, the total inferred resources at Svetloye, including the Elena, Amy and Tamara prospects was estimated at 20.1 million tonnes grading 2.21 g/t gold containing 1.428 million ounces of gold (see Press Release dated April 23, 2009).

Gold is associated with extensive zones of vuggy silica, quartz-alunite and quartz-dickite-kaolinite alteration. This style of mineralization is common to Pierina, Veladero and other high sulphidation epithermal deposits. Fortress owns a 100% interest in the Svetloye Project.

James C. Ashleman, Chief Geologist, P. Geo., and a Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101, has reviewed and verified the technical information contained in this news release. A rigorous quality control program has been instituted involving insertion of certified standards, duplicate sampling and check assaying. Samples are crushed and split on site with final sample preparation at the Irgiredmet Laboratory of Irkutsk, Russia (accredited by the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Standardization and Metrology "Gosstandart" of Russia). Assaying by fire assay is performed by the Irgiredmet Laboratory.
