Fortune River Resource Corp.: Drilling Begins at Fortune River's Highland Project in Nevada

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - June 5, 2006) - Fortune River Resource Corp. (TSX VENTURE:FRX)(FWB:RG7A) today reported that drilling has commenced at its Highland low-sulphidation property located in the Walker Lane Gold trend of western Nevada. Newcrest Resources Inc., a subsidiary of Australian-based Newcrest Mining Limited, is conducting the program as part of its earn-in for the project. The previously announced 5,000-metre drilling program (see news release dated January 20th, 2006) is expected to consist of two phases. Phase I is now underway and will include relatively shallow reverse-circulation drill holes that will test for new shoots of high-grade gold and silver under thin alluvial cover. Phase II, scheduled for later this summer or early fall, is expected to consist of deeper core drill holes for which a principal target will be expansion of a zone where prior drilling encountered 1.5 metres of 66.9 g/t gold and 397.7 g/t silver within an 12.2 metre intercept of 9.5 g/t gold and 109.4 g/t silver (see news release dated December 12, 2003).

Newcrest can earn a 70% interest in Highland by spending US$5.0 million and producing a prefeasiblity study by the fifth anniversary of the agreement (see news release dated November 2nd, 2005).
