The Fraser Institute: Media Advisory-Best Canadian Non-Profit Agencies to Be Named at Friday's Donner Awards and Share $70,000 in Prize Money

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2007) - Winners of the 10th annual Donner Canadian Foundation Awards for Excellence in the Delivery of Social Services will be announced Friday, October 19 in Toronto.

The Donner Awards recognize excellence in social service provision by Canadian non-profit organizations by encouraging best practices and greater accountability. Since 1998, the awards program has granted $650,000 in awards. Over the past 10 years it has received 3,990 applications from 2,305 unique organizations providing services in all 10 provinces and two territories.

The awards will be presented at a special 10th anniversary luncheon October 19 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto.

Almost 500 non-profit organizations from across Canada applied for the awards in 2007, submitting more than 630 unique social service programs for evaluation. The top organization in each of nine categories of social service delivery will win $5,000 awards while the $20,000 William H. Donner Award for Excellence will be presented to the highest performer overall. The Donner Awards newest honour, the $5,000 Peter F. Drucker Award for Non-Profit Management, will be presented to a non-profit organization with a consistent record of excellence and innovation in management and service delivery.
