Freedom to Read Week

Activities and Events Planned Across Canada

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2010) -

Attention Editors: Arts, Book, Entertainment and City Desk

Public readings, contests and panel discussions will be held across Canada as part of the 2010 Freedom to Read Week (Feb. 21st to 27th). These events provide an opportunity for Canadians to speak out on the issue of censorship and freedom of the press.

Visit for information and locations.

Canadians must speak out about banning or seizure of books and reading material, or any attempt to repress freedom of expression. This country has seen books and magazines removed from public libraries and schools because of challenges and complaints.

Freedom to Read Week is organized by the Book and Periodical Council's Freedom of Expression Committee.
