FreshDirect Standardizes on Tidal Enterprise Job Scheduler to Support Business Growth

Innovative Grocer Uses Scheduler to Increase IT Efficiency and BI Dependability

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - September 27, 2007) - Tidal Software™, a leading provider of application scheduling and performance management software, today announced that FreshDirect® is standardizing on Tidal™ Enterprise Scheduler for automation of its business intelligence (BI) processes. FreshDirect's affordable, fresh grocery delivery business is growing rapidly and requires significant, ongoing analysis of the business to help manage their operations. FreshDirect chose to standardize on Tidal Enterprise Scheduler in order to help IT scale smoothly to ensure the reliable delivery of information and analysis the business needs to support this growth.

Business intelligence is vital in helping FreshDirect understand key indicators of their business which drives decisions for their supply chain, operations, and marketing promotions. Keeping that flow of information current and reliable requires the coordination of many actions to manage the flow of information both inside FreshDirect and outside to its vendors and service providers. Tidal's job scheduler automates these processes, ensuring that this key decision support information is up-to-date and available when the business needs it.

"Tidal was the only solution that met our needs," explains Robert Reilly, Manager of Systems Engineering for FreshDirect. "We needed an automation solution that could drive processing through complete cycles across both our own and third-party datacenters. It needed to support operation schedules with dependencies across all our applications, our data warehousing and BI products, LINUX, and ftp/sftp. We needed a centralized solution, viewable from the web, with instant visibility into all issues and the ability to recover from any point of system failure. Tidal delivered this and more."

Populating and analyzing the data warehouse at FreshDirect means accessing many data sources with dependencies on the order in which processing occurs. FreshDirect's data is captured from diverse sources such as customer management, order management, and advertising and web marketing systems. Information also needs to be fed to and returned from FreshDirect's business partners who provide additional information and analysis. Reilly realized that given the overall complexity of the system, advanced automation would be required to streamline the processing which would improve the speed and accuracy of data warehouse population to ultimately improve BI analysis results.

"I highly recommend using an enterprise scheduler as an enterprise standard to any IT leaders who want to make operations more efficient and reduce frustrations stemming from processing issues," said Reilly. "Tidal's enterprise quality, ease-of-use, and supporting services have been great. Tidal was the clear choice for our scheduling needs."

Prior to Tidal's solution, FreshDirect was using cron. The manual requirements, lack of enterprise functionality, the need for scripting, and challenges in recovery from system errors were identified as inefficiencies with too high a margin of error. FreshDirect looked at products from many other vendors and quickly chose Tidal for its product as well as for the company's commitment to simplifying enterprise scheduling.

"We are pleased with FreshDirect's decision to standardize on Tidal's enterprise job scheduler," said Rod Butters, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Tidal Software. "We know that by simplifying their day-to-day processes, we are helping their business to scale, which in turn helps FreshDirect continue their expansion in the market."
