Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies Commends Tim Uppal for His Stand Against Israel Apartheid Week

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 1, 2010) - The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies commends MP Tim Uppal and the Conservative party for their courageous denunciation of the hatefest known as Israel Apartheid Week. The resolution states:

"That this House considers itself to be a friend of the State of Israel; that this House is concerned about expressions of anti-Semitism under the guise of "Israeli Apartheid Week"; and that this House explicitly condemns any action in Canada as well as internationally that would equate the State of Israel with the rejected and racist policy of apartheid."

According to Avi Benlolo, President & CEO of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, "The blatant hatred promoted during this week is part of the growing intimidation tactics to which Jewish university students are increasingly subjected; it has become clear that this week is nothing more than the new face of antisemitism. The strategies employed and the fear created in the Jewish student population is becoming eerily similar to the experience of Jewish academics in the early days of Nazi Germany."

"I urge all Members of the House to join together to pass this resolution, as did the Ontario legislature in an historic move just last week," Benlolo added.
