Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center: Indict Iranian President Ahmadinejad for Incitement to Commit Genocide

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 23, 2009) -

Attn: News/Assignment

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is holding a mock-indictment trial of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The trial takes place tonight at the Toronto Centre for the Arts (5040 Yonge Street) at 7:30 p.m.

"The Iranian President will be charged with the international criminal offence of Incitement to Commit Genocide against Israel and the Jewish people," said Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.

The charges outlined against him and his regime include incitement to hate, development of nuclear weapons, Holocaust denial, aiding and abetting terrorist groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad and the bombing of a Jewish Community Center in Argentina. These barely skim the surface.

"We can stop the tyrant of the day – Ahmadinejad - by beginning an educated community-wide dialogue that will launch an international campaign to bring him and his regime to justice," added Benlolo. "More than 100 U.N. Security Council Resolutions have been passed since 2005. None has sought to prevent Iran's genocidal threats against Israel. We can no longer sit idly by in silence".

In addition to the staging of the trial by professional actors, the featured guest speaker will be the Hon. Irwin Cotler, M.P. and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice. The Hon. Mr. Cotler has been a staunch advocate of Canadian and international measures to prevent President Ahmadinejad from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

NOTE: a photo from the trial will be available on Tuesday morning at www.fswc.ca (news room).
