From Pensions to Municipal Elections CUPE Members to Meet, Discuss and Organize

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - April 7, 2010) - The Canadian Union of Public Employees Manitoba Division will hold its annual convention from April 8th to the 10th at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, 375 York Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Highlights of the meeting include:

  • Thursday April 8 

    1:30 p.m. – CUPE National President Paul Moist on the economic crisis and the strength of public services 

    3:30 p.m. – Premier of Manitoba Greg Selinger
  • Friday April 9

    2:00 p.m. – Leader of the New Democratic Party, Jack Layton

    3:00 p.m. – Canadian Labour Congress researcher Joel Harden will speak about the national pension campaign
  • Saturday April 10

    8:00 a.m. – Morning breakfast forum on pensions and the importance of pensions to working people

"2010 is a hugely important year for our members because we will have both the municipal and school board elections," said Mike Skaftfeld, president of CUPE Manitoba. "We will certainly be spending some time during this convention on the planning and organizing around these two important events."

CUPE represents 600,000 workers across Canada and over 23,000 workers in Manitoba.
