Future Energy Gurus Meet in Mississauga for Student Conservation Forum

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2006) -

Attention News Editors:

Enersource Hydro Mississauga hosted a forum yesterday involving over 25 students who worked across Ontario to help promote conservation this summer.

The students worked at a number of leading organizations in the electricity sector including 5 major utilities within the powerWISE® Alliance (Enersource, Horizon, Veridian, PowerStream and Ottawa Hydro), the Ministry of Energy, the Ontario Power Authority, the Clean Air Foundation, and Reduce the Juice, a youth led initiative that provides program delivery on behalf of a number of sponsors, including Orangeville Hydro. The goal of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for the students to relate the innovative work that they have been doing and to learn about the work that their peers had undertaken at other organizations.

"This is an excellent opportunity for students to share their energy, ideas and perhaps newfound passion for conservation," said Gunars Ceksters, President and Chief Executive Officer of Enersource Corporation, who provided the opening remarks at the forum. "I think it's important that we involve and support the work of young adults to build their interest in the energy sector, especially in the area of conservation."

The student projects included: participating in community events or in door-to-door campaigns to distribute energy efficiency information and products such as compact fluorescent lights; water heater tune ups for electric water heating customers; watt reader loan programs at local libraries; renewable energy displays and; lighting upgrading and summer cooling programs targeted specifically to small businesses.

"We were very encouraged by the response from the participating electricity utilities and other organizations," said organizer David Graham, Senior Manager of Marketing at Enersource. "The students showed great enthusiasm in the presentations they made about their summer projects. We would like to run a similar event next year, build on the success of this year's event."
