Future Shop Opens Largest Store Ever in Edmonton

53,000 square feet of consumer electronics, home entertainment, appliances, new musical instruments shop in Future Shop's new South Edmonton Common Store

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 5, 2008) - Future Shop, Canada's largest retailer and e-tailer of consumer electronics, has opened its largest store in South Edmonton Common at 1320 99 St. NW (see Grand Opening Celebrations below including autograph signing with Gene Simmons and Ethan Moreau). The massive 53,000 square foot store is filled with more than 9,000 types of products from the latest TVs, Blu-ray players, computers / laptops, cell phones, GPS, iPods, to video games, movies, music, appliances, fitness equipment, musical instruments, and smart home systems.

New Musical Instrument Store in Edmonton and Online at futureshop.ca

New to Future Shop is a musical instruments shop within the store that sells a selection of guitars, electronic keyboards, digital pianos, electronic drums, DJ equipment, PA systems and home recording systems. The vibrant musical instrument store has practice rooms for customers to try out the musical instruments and starting in January, the opportunity to sign up for lessons. Musicians are invited to drop by and burn their demo music using one of three in-store home recording systems.

"We've seen the popularity of Guitar Hero and Rock Band grow with our customers," said Moe Amirie, Senior Vice President, Future Shop. "The popularity of these games has really driven a greater interest in learning to play musical instruments. As a result, Future Shop is now offering Edmontonians an opportunity to buy musical instruments in our new South Common Edmonton store, and for all Canadians to shop for musical instruments online at futureshop.ca."

Connectivity in the Hub of the Store

In the centre of the 53,000 square foot Future Shop is a Connectivity Hub that is designed with interactive displays for customers to experience technology and imagine how it will fit into all aspects of their life including living (appliances), playing (video gaming, TVs), working (computer, phones), and on-the-go (iPods, cameras, GPS, satellite radio). ConnectPro Experts are trained and ready to help customers learn about how their technology can connect together such as: a camera to a TV; a computer to a TV; a TV in a living room to a remote TV in a kitchen; or how your iPhone can power a switch to control all electronics.

In the Hub, customers sign up for ConnectPro Expert installation for Home Theatre, computers and car audio systems and schedule it at a time that is convenient for them. For customers that prefer in-store service, the Hub has a computer installation area. There are also ConnectPro Expert stations in the Home Theatre and Car Audio areas for customer convenience.

A Future Shop and AskingCanadians.com survey conducted in the summer this year found that the biggest challenge Canadians face when installing their own technology is time constraints (43 per cent) followed by lack of skills (41 per cent).

"Future Shop launched our ConnectPro service in June this year to help our customers optimize their electronics and entertainment systems," said Amirie. "Now with the Connectivity Hub in the centre of our new Future Shop in South Edmonton Common, customers can consult with our ConnectPro Experts and see how technology in their home connects together easily."
