GDG Environment Group Obtains a Financial Contribution from NRC-IRAP for Its Research Activities on Blue-Green Algae

TROIS-RIVIÈRES, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 7, 2010) - GDG ENVIRONMENT GROUP (TSX VENTURE:GDG) welcomes with deep satisfaction a financial contribution of $350,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) for a project aiming at developing a new technology for the rapid detection and quantification of cyanobacterial toxins. Moreover, its subsidiary, GDG Environnement, will benefit from technical and business advisory services.

The proliferation of cyanobacteria in numerous lakes and rivers has generated much human and animal health concerns. Thus, real-time detection and precise measurement of toxins in the field become essential for the protection of public health. The participation of NRC will make it possible for GDG Environnement to develop a biosensor, which can easily be used to test drinking and bathing waters, but also waters used in agricultural and industrial environments and food industries. The biosensor will be composed of a new generation of nanotechnology in regards to toxin detection and signal detection analysis. According to Mr. Christian Back, Vice-President of Science and Technologies: "This technology can readily be integrated in the development of an easy to use hand-held device. It offers reliability, specificity and sensitivity comparable to the methods used in laboratories. Moreover, it can be commercialized at competitive prices", Mr. Back added.

"The protection of public health and the environment is the heart of our mission. Research on blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) began more than two years ago and is an important part of GDG Environnement's growth plan" added Jean-Guy Lanouette, President of the Company.
