GE Homeland Protection Adds Former Deputy Police Chief, Anti-Terrorism Expert to Law Enforcement Team

National Security Specialist, Vincent M. Ortega, Adds to Law Enforcement Team's Ability to Provide Real-World Security Expertise

BRADENTON, FL--(Marketwire - October 16, 2007) - GE Security, a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of the General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), today announced Vincent M. Ortega, recently retired Kansas City deputy chief of police, as the newest addition to its Homeland Protection law enforcement team. Ortega joins as the national security specialist on the team of law enforcement domain experts and will provide strategic counsel on the evolving security challenges facing businesses and both private and government organizations.

"Our customers are faced with unique and evolving security challenges, not only in the law enforcement community but in every other organization, as well," said Vincent M. Ortega, national security specialist, GE Homeland Protection. "I've faced many of these challenges in my career and I'm thrilled to now have the opportunity to work with GE and our customers to deliver smart, strategic and real-world cross-security solutions to help make the world a safer place."

Ortega's law enforcement achievements include developing the Kansas City Police Department's nationally recognized Violent Crime Reduction Initiative, which helped prosecute Kansas City's most violent repeat offenders, resulting in the city's lowest homicide rate since 1974. While serving on the Kansas City Police force, Ortega developed the Department's Homeland Security Division and served as a consultant for the Major Cities Chief Association's Terrorist Alert Policy Project.

Following a nationally publicized Taser incident, Ortega was appointed chair of the Use of Force Task Force, whose members included representatives from the Urban League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations.

Ortega brings more than 30 years of distinctive law enforcement and security consulting experience to GE Homeland Protection. Ortega received a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice from Park College, and earned his Master's of Public Affairs from Park University.
