GM Canada: Second Shift to be Added at the Oshawa Car Plant

Increased capacity will support new Chevrolet Camaro Convertible and Buick Regal models

OSHAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2010) - The Oshawa Car Assembly Plant today confirmed plans to add a new shift to its state-of-the-art Flexible Manufacturing Line, to prepare for the 2011 launch of the Chevrolet Camaro convertible and the all-new Buick Regal. These new products will be built along-side the hot-selling Chevrolet Camaro. The second shift will begin in the fourth quarter of 2010. The implementation of the second shift and the launch of the new products will result in the recall of approximately 700 employees.

"The addition of the second shift is terrific news for our employees, the CAW, suppliers and the community," said Dan Hermer, plant manager for the Oshawa Car Assembly Plant. "We're exceptionally proud of the quality record of this plant and we look forward to supplying customers with these exciting new models."

The Oshawa Car plant has been working Saturday over-time since June of 2009 and this continues into 2010 in order to keep up with the high customer demand for the Chevrolet Camaro. Within just three months of its launch, the Camaro quickly became the top-selling car in its segment and the Camaro convertible model, coming in 2011, is expected to drive another wave of sales success for this car.

The all-new 2011 Buick Regal is a modern sport sedan that was born in Europe as the Opel Insignia - a car that's already earned more than 30 awards, including European Car of the Year, and is the best-selling midsize sedan in Europe today. The Regal will bring all of that award-winning design, technology, and European-inspired performance capability to Canadian drivers.
