Gabriel Meets with International Labour Organization on "Decent Work Agenda" for Romania

At Washington Meeting, Gabriel CFO Notes Company's Full Support for ILO Initiative

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2007) - Richard Young, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Gabriel Resources Ltd.(TSX:GBU), participated in a special presentation today by the Center for American Progress Action Fund on "Decent Work: Forging a New International Consensus on Globalization" at which Juan Somavia, Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), gave the keynote address. Through the Decent Work Agenda, the ILO is working around the globe to promote opportunities for people to find decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security, and human dignity.

Mr. Young expressed "Gabriel Resources' full support for the ILO and the Decent Work Agenda's efforts to promote decent work through its work on employment, social protection, standards and fundamental principles, rights at work, and social dialogue." "Gabriel," Young continued, "not only supports the ILO's Decent Work Agenda but is committed to its implementation in its enterprises in Romania."

Gabriel's Rosia Montana Project is located in one of the most impoverished regions in Romania. Rosia Montana village, designated a "disadvantaged zone" by the Romanian Government, presently experiences 70% unemployment, a rate that would rise to over 90% in the absence of the Gabriel project. The Rosia Montana mining project will bring an average of 1,200 jobs during the construction phase, with more than 600 jobs during the operations phase (projected to run 17 years), followed by the closure and reclamation phase. The Project's high-skilled jobs will pay several times the average Romanian wage. Gabriel Resources is signatory to the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, as well as the UN Global Compact.

The overarching objective of the ILO has been re-phrased as the promotion of opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. Decent work is the converging focus of the four strategic objectives, namely rights at work, employment, social protection and social dialogue. Decent work is an organizing concept for the ILO in order to provide an overall framework for action in economic and social development.

Gabriel's commitment to the Decent Work Agenda stems from the company's Community Development Initiative, a comprehensive program to improve living standards in the Rosia Montana area, as well as programs to preserve the community's cultural heritage, encourage environmental quality, secure employment stability and spark economic development.
