GainSpan Names Greg Winner President and CEO

Veteran Semiconductor and Wireless Executive to Lead GainSpan to Next Stage of Growth

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - February 17, 2010) - GainSpan® Corporation, a leader in highly integrated low-power Wi-Fi semiconductor solutions, today announced the appointment of Greg Winner as President and CEO and member of the Board of Directors. A 30-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, Winner brings extensive experience in product development, engineering and operations. In his new role, Winner will lead GainSpan into the next phase of growth.

Winner has served as President and CEO of early and growth stage start-ups, ZeroG Wireless and u-Nav Microelectronics and in executive management posts at major semiconductor companies. While at ZeroG, Winner significantly increased sales, architected key strategic partnerships, and brought products to commercial production. Previously he led u-Nav Microelectronics through a successful merger with Atheros Communications, where he served as General Manager of the Global Positioning Systems Business Unit.

Prior to Atheros, Winner headed up engineering and quality operations for Applied Micro Circuit Corp. (AMCC) as a senior vice president and general manager. He joined AMCC from Silicon Systems (purchased by Texas Instruments), where he spent 17 years of his career and as Vice President of Product Development, oversaw product development that resulted in record sales growth for the company. Winner holds an MSEE from Stanford and a BSEE from UCLA.

GainSpan is a leader in the rapidly growing wireless sensor networks market and is poised for major growth in 2010 and beyond.

"Greg is a proven C-level executive in managing early, growth-stage companies," said Stephen J. Socolof, Managing Partner, New Venture Partners, a GainSpan investor. "His product development expertise and knowledge of wireless chips and modules will be valuable to GainSpan as it continues its mission to become the leading provider of low-power embedded Wi-Fi solutions."

Winner takes over former President and CEO Vijay Parmar. Parmar, who co-founded GainSpan in 2006 and brought it to its successful market position today, will assume the new role of head of business development with a strong focus on strategic partnerships and key alliances.

"GainSpan is addressing an untapped market of over 3 billion units and we have the right product solution and team to capitalize on this opportunity," said GainSpan's newly appointed President and CEO Greg Winner.

GainSpan recently announced the GS1011 SoC for wireless sensor networks and an updated software developer's kit. In addition, the company's 802.11 b/g sensor reference design recently received Wi-Fi certification and is the first ultra low-power Wi-Fi design to be certified for enterprise security.
