Gastronomica Vanier: A Fundraiser for HIPPY Ottawa: SOLD OUT!

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 24, 2009) - The Quartier Vanier Merchants Association (BIA) is pleased to announce that its very first GASTRONOMICA VANIER, an event designed to raise proceeds for HIPPY Ottawa has sold out. On Wednesday September 30th, five Vanier restaurants and bistros will be serving a special menu, and 25% of their proceeds that evening will be handed over to this charitable organization.

HIPPY stands for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters. It is an organization that started in Israel and now boasts programs across North America. It was highly acclaimed and supported by President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary. In Canada, HIPPY started up first in Vancouver and then moved east to Toronto, then Montreal. The Ottawa program started last fall here in Vanier and is run through the Vanier Community Service Centre.

The program is designed to give preschoolers a better chance to succeed. Children between the ages of three and five years old are taught foundation skills that will prepare them for school. Already more than 70 families have been signed up since last fall and there remains a considerable waiting list.

"We want to introduce new people to these five fabulous restaurants that are helping us help children and families in Vanier," said Barbara Uteck, a Friend of HIPPY Ottawa. 'We have a great partnership with the Quartier Vanier BIA that will benefit, the children, the families, the restaurants, and the community and we want to thank the QVBIA for its interest and support."

John Therien, Chair of the QV BIA says: "Vanier's participating five unique restaurants are helping our children to succeed, and celebrating this great program. We look forward to welcoming everyone next week and experiencing the great ambiance of the Quartier."

Participating restaurants are:

- Arturo's Market at 49 Beechwood Ave.,

- Farb's Kitchen and Wine Bar at 18 Beechwood Ave.,

- Groovy's Roti Hut at 292 McArthur Ave.,

- Maison Baguettes Etc., at 381 Montreal Road and

- Todric's Fine Dining and Catering at 10 McArthur Ave.
