General Motors Secures Nationwide Dealerships With Fortinet Solutions

Network Integrator Nuspire Key to GM Dealership Deployment

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 28, 2006 -- Fortinet -- the pioneer and leading provider of multi-threat security solutions -- today announced that General Motors Dealer Equipment (GMDE) has deployed FortiGate™ multi-threat security systems at hundreds of its dealerships throughout the United States. After evaluating Symantec, WatchGuard, Cisco and CyberGuard, Fortinet was chosen due to value, breadth of security, and performance.

Fortinet partnered with Nuspire, a GM-approved solutions integrator, to provide a comprehensive security platform -- utilizing the antivirus, firewall, Web content filtering, anti-spam and anti-spyware services and applications integrated in Fortinet's FortiGate devices -- to safeguard against network threats at GM nationwide dealerships and ensure secure access to corporate resources.

"Implementing Fortinet FortiGate-60 systems in our dealerships has enabled dealers to conduct business over the Internet safely, professionally, and in real-time," said Tony Smith, customer relations manager for GMDE. "The systems help eliminate viruses, spyware, and other types of attacks as well as control inappropriate Web usage, and the FortiGuard™ subscription update services maximize resources by eliminating the need for our managers to manually scan for malware on each computer in their dealerships."

Safe, Compliant Dealer Transactions

At auto dealerships, customer service is paramount. Dealership managers and sales professionals need quick, reliable and secure Internet access for critical transactions, such as ordering/building cars, loan processing, and approval. Any delay in these transactions, due to a bogged down Internet connection or a jeopardized network, can severely impact customer service and response times.

At the same time, GM dealers must also comply with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) regulations, which require that companies take measures to protect consumers' personal financial information held by financial institutions. Due to the nature of the business of dealerships and their relationships with banks and credit companies, compliance to this regulation is critical.

As such, GM turned to Nuspire for a security solution that would allow its remote dealerships to access the Internet safely, professionally and in real-time.

"We thought that Fortinet would be the best choice for GM because the FortiGate systems work at the hardware layer and use an ASIC processor to eliminate latency; it also provides a great deal of functionality at a reasonable cost point," said Saylor Frase, president at Nuspire. "We also knew from our experience working with Fortinet that deployment would be quick even with a large network like GM's. It was only a matter of weeks before we had the Fortinet systems in place and GM's new security infrastructure up and running."

Comprehensive, Integrated Security Platform

Fortinet's FortiGate multi-threat security appliances provide comprehensive network and content protection through the integration of eight essential security applications and services -- including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), anti-spam, anti-spyware, Web filtering and traffic shaping. The systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard subscription services, which provide continuous updates to ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats -- around the clock, and around the world.
