Good Skates Program, a Unique Partnership Between Philadelphia School District and the Blue Cross RiverRink, Continues for the 16th Year

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - November 19, 2009) - With a great commitment to community service in mind, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation continues to partner with the Philadelphia School District to contribute to student physical education. The "Good Skates" Program provides free intensive instructional skating lessons for school children in the School District of Philadelphia. In fact, "Good Skates" has been credited by the physical education department as one of the best extracurricular athletic programs ever provided to the School District of Philadelphia.

The Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing, located at Columbus Boulevard at Market Street, will host over 100 middle school students in the "Good Skates" program, which has become so popular that the School District developed a lottery system to select schools. To be eligible, each school completes an application submitted to the School District of Philadelphia. Those schools selected receive free enrollment in the three-week "Good Skates" Program, which includes 1/2 hour skating lesson with professional instruction and one-hour practice time and free skating. Six classes averaging around 40 kids participate in each of the three-week sessions. Skating instructions and admission is complimentary and skate rentals are included. The schools will attend on Thursday mornings from 9:45-11:30 a.m.

Independence Blue Cross is the founding and presenting sponsor of the Blue Cross RiverRink. The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation owns and operates the Blue Cross RiverRink. Other supporters include: TD Bank, CBS 3 and the CW Philly and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation.

The Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia's only outdoor public ice rink, is located on Columbus Boulevard at Market Street. For more information on skating sessions, ice skating lessons, birthday parties or private receptions, please call 215.925.RINK or visit
