The Government of Canada Delivers Message of Support to Canadian Museum of Cultural Heritage of Indo-Canadian

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 30, 2008) - The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and Member of Parliament (Medicine Hat), on behalf of the Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), will participate tomorrow in the annual gala dinner and fundraising event for the Canadian Museum of Cultural Heritage of Indo-Canadians.

"People of Indo-Canadian heritage have brought their skills, knowledge, and talents to Canada for decades, and Canadian society continues to benefit greatly from their contribution," said Secretary of State Kenney. "The Government of Canada considers Canada's diversity to be one of our greatest strengths, and we are committed to strengthening pluralism and national cohesion."

"There is tremendous diversity within the Indo-Canadian community, in terms of both religion and country of origin," said Minister Solberg. "The architecture of this building alone is a testament to the many ways that Indo-Canadian culture and traditions have enriched Canada."

Built in 2007, the museum is designed to showcase and preserve the heritage of Canadians who can trace their roots to the Indian subcontinent. The museum, which was built using Vedic engineering principles, is part of the Swaminarayan complex, which includes a Hindu temple and haveli (meeting hall).

The Government of Canada is committed to reaching out to all Canadians and is developing lasting relationships with ethnic and religious communities in Canada. It encourages these communities to participate fully in Canadian society by enhancing their level of economic, social and cultural integration.
