Government of Canada Grants $200,000 in Funding to Plastiques Wolinak Inc. for Equipment Acquisition and New Product Development

WOLINAK, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 28, 2010) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbiniere-Chutes-de-la-Chaudiere, today announced the awarding of $200,000 in repayable funding to Plastiques Wolinak Inc. Granted through the Community Adjustment Fund provided for under Canada's Economic Action Plan, this financial assistance will enable the firm to purchase leading-edge equipment and develop a mould prototype for use in the manufacture of a new product.

Managed by the Abenaki Band Council of Wolinak, in partnership with private contractors, Plastiques Wolinak Inc. has been specializing in plastic injection moulding since 2004. The firm integrates environmental responsibility into its operations by purchasing recycled plastics, using recycled cardboard for packaging, recycling production waters and factory residues and limiting energy consumption.

"In January of 2009, our government adopted Canada's Economic Action Plan to tackle the economic crisis that has hit our country, along with the rest of the world. This large-scale measure is aimed not only at bringing about our rapid economic recovery, but also at laying the foundations for solid long-term growth and job creation. The project put forth by Plastiques Wolinak meets the criteria of this measure in that it will result in the immediate creation of nine sustainable jobs and the maintenance of 12 existing positions," explained Jacques Gourde.

The contribution from Canada Economic Development will allow Plastiques Wolinak to develop a prototype for a mould that will serve in the manufacture of an innovative new product made entirely of recycled and recyclable plastic materials for use in the laying of ceramic tiles. Ninety-five percent of the output of this new product will be destined for export markets.
