Government of Canada Grants $223,500 in Funding to Club de motoneigistes du Saguenay Inc.

SAGUENAY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 5, 2010) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), today announced that Club de motoneigistes du Saguenay Inc. has been awarded $223,500 in non-repayable funding through the Community Diversification program for the purchase of a high-powered snow grooming machine. Requiring an overall investment of nearly $300,000, this project will enable the club to ensure better quality trails to snowmobilers in the area.

"Canada Economic Development is lending its financial assistance to Club de motoneigistes du Saguenay for this project because snowmobiling is an important source of revenue for Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. The region has every interest in developing this sector and offering a top-of-the-line recreational product. Already known for its exceptional snow conditions, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean succeeds in attracting, year in and year out, a considerable number of snowmobiling enthusiasts from across Quebec and the world. Improving the network can only help the region better position itself as one of the province's premium winter tourist destinations," stated Minister Blackburn.

Founded in 1979, Club de motoneigistes du Saguenay is a non-profit organization with some 3,000 members and 70 volunteers. The club is responsible for the upkeep of nearly 500 kilometres of snowmobiling trails south of the Saguenay River, including the No. 83 Trans-Québec trail and No. 368 regional trail that link Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean to the Charlevoix area and the Québec region, respectively.
