Government of Canada Grants $45,000 to Recuperation des Basques Inc. for Development of New Energy Pellet Production Line

TROIS-PISTOLES, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 4, 2010) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, Bernard Genereux, Member of Parliament for Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Riviere-du-Loup, today announced the awarding of $45,000 in non-repayable funding to Recuperation des Basques Inc., a non-profit organization in Trois-Pistoles, for the launch of an energy pellet production line.

Established in 1992, Recuperation des Basques specializes in the collection and sorting of recycled materials for subsequent resale to recyclers. This funding will be used to acquire equipment that will enable the organization to add a production line specifically dedicated to the manufacture of energy pellets made from urban biomass. In this way, Recuperation des Basques will be able to convert the branches, Christmas trees and other biomass waste collected at its eco-centre into pellets that will be sold for use in residential and industrial heating in the Basques Regional County Municipality (RCM). Requiring an overall investment of $106,000, this project will result in the creation of two new jobs in the short term as well as the maintenance of another 13 existing positions.

"The establishment of this new energy pellet production line is great news for the community and a clear reflection of this organization's dynamism and innovativeness. This project promises to generate major spinoffs for Recuperation des Basques and the RCM as a whole. Indeed, developing expertise in the recycling and reclamation of the RCM's waste materials will not only consolidate the organization's operations, it will also create jobs and contribute to the diversification of the local economy," stated Bernard Genereux.

This financial assistance has been awarded through the Community Adjustment Fund, one of the economic recovery measures established under Canada's Economic Action Plan to help stimulate investment, open up new opportunities and create employment.
