The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, today announced the awarding of $95,000 in repayable funding to Club des motoneigistes du Lac William Inc. Awarded through the Community Diversification program, this assistance will enable the organization to acquire a new snow-grooming machine adapted to snowmobile routes in mountainous terrain and thereby offer users, including its 218 members, well groomed, high quality trails.

Founded in 1974, Club des motoneigistes du Lac William Inc. is a non-profit snowmobiling club which maintains 85 km of snowmobile trails in the Centre-du-Quebec region, among them the No. 25 Trans-Quebec and No. 538 regional trails connecting the region to the Estrie and Chaudiere-Appalaches and to the United States. The new trail groomer will be also used to maintain two strategic routes through the area, gateways for U.S. snowmobilers who come up from Maine.

"We already know that winter tourism plays a key role in the Centre-du-Quebec economy. Indeed, it is largely due to the sector's potential for generating spinoffs that Canada Economic Development was quick to agree to back this project. This financial assistance will support regional tourism stakeholders in their efforts to maximize trail quality and increase the safety of users. The new snow-grooming machine will ensure that the trails crisscrossing the region will be better maintained, which is sure to increase the area's appeal to snowmobilers from here and all over," stated Minister Paradis.

Snowmobiling is a key component of the regional tourism industry, generating direct economic benefits estimated at more than $8 million annually. This project will also create a positive impact on the Quebec snowmobile industry as a whole by further enhancing the province's reputation as a destination of choice for snowmobilers.
