Government of Canada: New Appointment to the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 1, 2007) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of Mr. Douglas C. Stanley to the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). He will act as a Governor representing the province of New Brunswick.

"I am pleased to welcome the appointment of Mr. Stanley," said Minister Blackburn. "His experience as president of New Brunswick's Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission over the past six years will be an asset to the CCOHS."

Mr. Stanley has held numerous positions throughout his career, including New Brunswick's Deputy Minister of Labour and Manpower, Chairman of the Industrial Relations Committee, law professor, and Chairman of the Construction Industry Panel Industrial Relations Board of New Brunswick.

Mr. Stanley was called to the New Brunswick Bar in 1971. His practice focuses on arbitration and dispute resolution, and he has published numerous articles on labour law journals. Mr. Stanley holds a masters degree in law from the Osgoode Hall Law School, a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of law degree, both from the University of New Brunswick.

The internationally renowned CCOHS, located in Hamilton, Ontario, was created in 1978 to promote the fundamental right of Canadians to a healthy and safe working environment.
