Government of Canada Supports the Celebration of the City of Dryden's Centennial Anniversary

DRYDEN, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 19, 2010) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament (Kenora), today announced funding for the Dryden Development Corporation's celebration of the 100th anniversary of the City of Dryden.

The 2010 centennial anniversary celebrations will feature several commemorative activities that highlight the work of local artists, including musical performances, an arts festival, and various installation projects.

"Our Government is proud to invest in the centennial anniversary of the City of Dryden," said Minister Moore. "The creative events that will take place over the next year truly celebrate the rich history of the community and provide an important showcase for both Dryden's residents and visitors."

"The Dryden Centennial celebrations are exactly the kind of local activities that our Government is proud to support," said Mr. Rickford. "I appreciate the hard work of the Dryden Centennial 2010 committee, and I am glad our Government was able to help out. Dryden is a strong, vibrant community, and these celebrations reinforce and showcase the importance of the Dryden area to the great Kenora riding and to Canada."

"This truly is an exciting year for the citizens of the city of Dryden, both past and present," said Linda McNaughton, Treasurer of the Dryden Development Corporation. "Funding provided for this Centennial Celebration will help us present a series of unique events that engage the entire community."

The Dryden Development Corporation is a local, incorporated organization that engages volunteers to increase citizen participation, provides opportunities for local artists, and increases exposure to local historical heritage.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $154,000 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
