Government of Canada Awards $200,000 in Funding to La Source Bains Nordiques

RAWDON, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today marked the inauguration of the new relaxation pavilion of La Source Bains Nordiques, for which Canada Economic Development has awarded $200,000 in repayable funding through its Community Diversification program to enable the spa to complete Phase II of its business plan.

La Source Bains Nordiques has been a huge success since it opened on February 1, 2007. Tens of thousands of visitors have already enjoyed pleasurable moments relaxing in its Nordic steam baths and saunas. In order to serve its growing and increasingly diverse clientele, the enterprise has invested more than $1.8 million in expanding its facilities.

"Rawdon's Nordic spa fits in with the current trend to combine relaxation resorts with enchanting sites. The unprecedented popularity of spas, like La Source Bains Nordiques, accounts in part for the significant growth of this young enterprise. The implementation, after only three years of operation, of Phase II of the project, namely, to expand and improve the facilities, is a clear indication of how fast it is growing. The spa's project is also a good example of the dynamism of Lanaudiere tourism operators, while helping to strengthen and diversify the economy of the Matawinie Regional County Municipality. It will certainly attract a greater number of tourists to the region and create sustainable jobs," explained the Minister of State.

Nestled in an enchanting mountain setting covering 2 million square metres, Rawdon's Nordic spa boasts an exceptional location. It also enjoys an added plus, given the growing popularity of outdoor activities and healthy and wellness vacations. Completion of the spa's project will create an additional three full-time jobs and 15 part-time jobs, bringing the total to 18 and 44, respectively.

The aim of Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program is to fund initiatives undertaken by Quebec regions to preserve and broaden their economic activity base.
