Government of Canada Celebrates Launch of the 12th Rendez-vous de la Francophonie

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 5, 2010) - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today launched the 12th Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, which will take place across Canada from March 5 to 21, 2010.

The theme of this year's edition is "Découvrir pour interagir" [Discover to interact]. It invites Canadians to discover the Francophonie by participating in a variety of events—including community events, multicultural encounters, ceremonies, shows, theatre and music, and poetry activities—being held across Canada.

"Our Government is proud to support projects like the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie that celebrate our Francophone communities from coast to coast," said Minister Moore. "Through 15 days of activities, this event offers a special opportunity to promote the French language and gives all Canadians a chance to come together at activities taking place in these communities."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $900,000 under the Community Life component of the Development of Official-Language Communities Program. This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage aims to foster the development of Canada's minority Anglophone and Francophone communities and enable them to participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
