Government of Canada Congratulates Athletes at the Rockstar Ski Cross Grand Prix

BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 20, 2010) - On behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), the Honourable Helena Guergis, Minister of State (Status of Women) and Member of Parliament (Simcoe-Grey), today congratulated medal winners at the Rockstar Ski Cross Grand Prix and announced a contribution to the event held at the Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario.

"I am pleased to congratulate the winning athletes and to support the Rockstar Ski Cross Grand Prix," said Minister of State Guergis. "As our athletes prepare to represent Canada at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, events such as this provide them with an opportunity to compete against the best freestyle skiers in the world. Their performances have given us a taste of the excitement to come."

The Rockstar Ski Cross Grand Prix attracted more than 125 of the world's best freestyle skiers from 25 countries.

The Canadian Freestyle Ski Association is the national governing body for freestyle skiing in Canada. The organization oversees the management of freestyle skiing programming from the entry level to international competition, including Canadian athletes and teams participating in world cups and Olympic Games.

The Government of Canada provided funding of $50,000 to the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association through Sport Canada's Hosting Program ( to help make this event a success.
