Government of Canada Grants $112,151 in Funding to Club motoneige Dolbeau-Mistassini

ALMA, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2010) − The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $112,151 in non-repayable financial assistance to Club motoneige Dolbeau-Mistassini through the Community Diversification program for the acquisition of a snow grooming machine to maintain area snowmobiling trails.

Founded in 2000, Club motoneige Dolbeau-Mistassini is a non-profit organization that, with its 400 some members, 20 volunteers and three seasonal employees, handles the maintenance of 172 kilometres of snowmobile trails in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Maria-Chapdelaine, including a 38-kilometre stretch of the Trans-Québec No. 93 trail, 20 kilometres of the No. 367 regional trail and 114 kilometres of local trails. The new grooming equipment will allow the organization to ensure that all users, some of whom include foreign tourists, are able to enjoy a safe and accessible network of trails that meet snowmobile industry standards.

"The important role winter tourism plays in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean economy is a well-established fact, and that is why Canada Economic Development is proud to lend its financial support to Club motoneige Dolbeau-Mistassini for this project. The region, its people and its beautiful natural environment draw a great number of tourists to the area every year. Not only does this vast territory offer exceptional snow conditions, it is a genuine paradise for snowmobile enthusiasts," explained the Minister of State.

As part of its firm commitment to fostering tourism growth, the Government of Canada adopted an economic action plan in January 2009 that, among other things, calls for the allocation of $40 million in funding over two years to the Canadian Tourism Commission for the promotion of the country's industry on national and international markets.
