Government of Canada Grants $119,100 in Funding to Auberge des Caps

CARLETON-SUR-MER, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 17, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $119,100 in repayable funding to Auberge des Caps through the Community Adjustment Fund for the modernization of its facilities. Necessitating an overall investment of $320,619, this project will help expand and improve the tourism lodging supply in the Gaspésie region.

The Auberge des Caps project involves renovating the building's rooms and acquiring furniture and equipment. Once refurbished, the 24-unit lodging facility, which will also feature reception halls, meeting rooms and breakfast service, will be in a position to accommodate the needs of tourists and business travellers alike.

"The Government of Canada was unhesitating in its decision to lend financial support to this Auberge des Caps project, an initiative that will result in the creation of eight jobs, two of them permanent positions, while generating considerable local economic spinoffs. The communities of Carleton and Saint-Omer will now have a wider selection of quality lodging establishments to offer the ever-growing number of convention delegates who come to the Carleton congress centre for meetings and the vacationers who will hopefully be enticed to extend their stay in the Gaspésie region," noted the Minister of State.

Established under Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Community Adjustment Fund is a billion-dollar, two-year measure put in place to help finance job-creating projects and provide support to vulnerable communities suffering the impacts of the global economic recession.
