Government of Canada Grants $550,000 in Funding to Groupe Meloche Inc.

SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 22, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $550,000 in repayable funding to Groupe Meloche Inc. through the Business and Regional Growth program.

Groupe Meloche specializes in the factory manufacture of parts and subassemblies intended primarily for the aeronautics and defence sectors. A leader in its field, the company counts a number of major multinationals among its clients.

This financial assistance will enable the dynamic firm to acquire technological equipment as part of a larger project that will require an overall investment of more than $10 million and include a plant expansion. Groupe Meloche will thus become one of Canada's most competitive integrated suppliers of high value-added mechanical parts and components. This project will also allow the manufacturer to maintain its existing jobs and ultimately create 15 new positions.

"Canada Economic Development believes it is important to support an enterprise like Groupe Meloche, one of the most innovative and productive in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. The leading-edge equipment the company intends to acquire with this financial assistance will enable it to further bolster its productivity and innovative capabilities while creating jobs in a region that has been hard hit by multinational closings. In becoming one of Canada's first make-to-order manufacturers armed with this kind of equipment, Groupe Meloche is making a strategic decision that is sure to yield returns," noted the Minister of State.

Groupe Meloche's ISO 9001, AS9100 and NADCAP certifications have earned it prime standing as a major supplier among key enterprises in the aeronautics sector, an industrial sector whose development has been identified as a regional priority by Canada Economic Development's Montérégie business office.
