Government of Canada Grants $92,009 in Funding to Club de motoneige du Fjord Inc.

L'ANSE-SAINT-JEAN, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 12, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $92,009 in non-repayable funding to the Club de motoneige du Fjord under the Community Diversification program toward the purchase of a new grooming machine for the upkeep of local snowmobile and quad trails.

Founded in 1993, the Club de motoneige du Fjord Inc. is a non-profit organization of 120 members. Among other things, the snowmobile club is responsible for maintaining 113 kilometres of snowmobiling and quading trails in Bas-Saguenay, including the 68 kilometres of the 383 regional trail linking the Charlevoix region to the Saguenay. The new snow groomer will enable the club to ensure all users, including international tourists, trails that are safe, accessible and in line with snowmobile industry standards.

"We already know that winter tourism plays a key role in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean economy. Indeed, it is largely due to the major spinoffs generated by this sector that Canada Economic Development was quick to lend its financial support to Club de motoneige du Fjord. The region, its people and its scenic beauty are a powerful magnet for tourists who flock there every year. This vast territory not only offers exceptional snow conditions, it is truly a snowmobiler's paradise," stated Minister Lebel.

As part of its commitment to encouraging tourism, the Government of Canada implemented an economic action plan that provides $40 million over two years to the Canadian Tourism Commission to promote Canada at home and abroad.
