Government of Canada Helps Canadians Honour Veterans

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today federal government support for a variety of community-led remembrance projects honouring Veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"Our Government is proud to support community events like these so that we never forget the sacrifices made by our nation's truest heroes: our Veterans," said Minister Thompson. "The men and women who served during times of war and peace deserve to be honoured and remembered for their countless contributions to our country."

A total of 24 community-led remembrance groups across the country are receiving a combined total of $85,425 through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community Engagement Partnership Fund. The remembrance projects include commemorative ceremonies, parades, musicals, conferences, plays, and educational projects.

Applications to the Community Engagement Partnership Fund are accepted throughout the year. Non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events may be eligible for funding.
