Government of Canada Invests in Editions FouLire

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2009) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Daniel Petit, Member of Parliament (Charlesbourg-Haute-Saint-Charles), today announced funding for Editions FouLire. The funding will help this publisher produce and promote books by Canadian authors.

"Our Government is proud to assist local writers and publishers," said Minister Moore. "This support is not only good for our economy and helps maintain jobs, but it also enables more Canadians to have access to the ideas, stories, and world views of their fellow citizens."

"Editions FouLire is a wonderful example of Quebec's savoir-faire in youth literature," said Mr. Petit. "Our Government's support will help this publisher continue their work of introducing thousands of young people to the delights of reading in the coming year."

The Government of Canada has provided $59,206 under the Aid to Publishers (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/padie-bpidp/dem-app/atp/atp-eng.cfm) component of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/padie-bpidp/index-eng.cfm). It has also just renewed the program's annual funding of $39.5 million for the next five years. The Program has been modernized to put the emphasis on digital technology and has been renamed the Canada Book Fund (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/flc-cbf/index-eng.cfm) to highlight its changed role: instead of supporting a developing industry, it now strengthens a better-established industry that ensures access to Canadian books for readers around the world.
