Government of Canada Invests in Fenn Publishing Company

BOLTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2009) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, David Tilson, Member of Parliament (Dufferin-Caledon), today announced an investment in Fenn Publishing Company Ltd.

"Our Government is proud to support the ongoing publication and promotion of a wide variety of Canadian-authored books," said Minister Moore. "Canadians wants to have access to Canadian voices on topics that are of interest to them, and Canadian-owned publishers such as Fenn Publishing Company work tirelessly to fulfill this need."

"We are very proud to have such a highly regarded Canadian publisher in Dufferin-Caledon that continues to promote Canadian authors who represent a distinctive Canadian voice," said Mr. Tilson. "On behalf of our Government and the residents of my riding, I would like to sincerely congratulate the Fenn Publishing Company on receiving this funding and for meeting the demand for more topics of interest to Canadians."

Created in 1977, Fenn Publishing Company primarily produces sports books and children's books, with a particular focus on books about hockey.

"We acknowledge and appreciate the support from the Government of Canada," said Sylvia Fenn, President of Fenn Publishing. "The assistance provided helps us immensely with the production and marketing of our books, reaching more Canadian readers with Canadian-authored books year after year."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $81,101 under the Aid to Publishers component of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program (BPIDP)( http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/padie-bpidp/index-eng.cfm), which supports the ongoing production and promotion of Canadian-authored books through financial assistance to Canadian-owned and -controlled publishers. As part of its renewal, this program has been streamlined and renamed the Canada Book Fund (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/flc-cbf/index-eng.cfm) to reflect the evolution of its role from being the supporter of a developing industry to reinforcing a mature industry that brings Canadian books to readers everywhere. Next year's contributions will be provided through the Canada Book Fund.
