Government of Canada Invests in Ontario Golf and Home Builder Magazines

BURLINGTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 24, 2010) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Mike Wallace, Member of Parliament (Burlington), today announced funding for Osprey Media, which produces Ontario Golf and Ontario Home Builder magazines.

This funding will contribute to the creation of the magazines' editorial content, writing, design, artwork, and photography.

Ontario Golf is the most widely read and circulated regional golf magazine in Canada. It is published in four regular issues and one annual equipment issue each year. Ontario Home Builder is a definitive source of information for the province's home-building industry and the ultimate guide to builder goods and services in Ontario.

"Our Government is proud to have renewed its funding for Canadian magazines and community newspapers," said Minister Moore. "A strong periodical sector contributes to our economy and allows Canadians to tell and hear stories, opinions, and perspectives on all topics that are of interest to them."

"I am pleased to see the Government of Canada supporting the growth of Burlington-based magazines," said Mr. Wallace.

"Government of Canada funding is very important to Ontario Golf and Ontario Home Builder and helps us produce magazines that our readers truly enjoy," said Sheryl Humphreys, Publisher.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $26,070 to Ontario Golf and $25,723 to Ontario Home Builder through the Support for Editorial Content component of the Canada Magazine Fund. In February 2009, the Government announced that it would maintain its support for Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which recently launched its Aid to Publishers component, will continue to invest in periodicals like this one to increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries.
