Government of Canada Supports 2010 Junior Pan Am Karate Championships

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 19, 2010) - On behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources, today confirmed the federal government's contribution to Karate Canada in support of the 2010 Junior Pan Am Karate Championships, which runs from August 20 to 22 in Montréal.

"Our Government is proud to support the 2010 Junior Pan Am Karate Championships, which will once again showcase some of our elite martial artists. It will also feature seminars on the advancement of women and athletes with a disability in karate, as well as on officiating." said Minister Paradis. "This event provides participants and spectators alike with an outstanding opportunity to enjoy the highest level of karate competition from over 400 competitors."

The Government of Canada believes that participation in sport is part of a healthy lifestyle and contributes to a healthy society. Hosting international sport events gives Canada the opportunity to showcase our country to athletes and spectators from around the world.

The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in Canada and supports participation and excellence from the playground to the podium. A contribution of up to $250,000 will be provided to the 2010 Junior Pan Am Karate Championships through Sport Canada's Hosting Program.
