Government of Canada Supports Art in Architecture Education Program

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2007) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today announced a contribution of up to $5,000 to the College of Fellows of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. The funds, provided through Veterans Affairs' Community Engagement Partnership Fund, will support the distribution of an educational program kit entitled Art in Architecture. The core of the program kits is an educational DVD entitled "In Search of a Soul," which describes the background and process of designing the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. The kit also includes a learning guide.

"'In Search of a Soul' illustrates how architects were able to construct the National War Museum to stand as a reflection of war and peace," said Minister Thompson. "Having the Art in Architecture program kit distributed to schools across Canada will ensure that youth experience the Museum's message of hope, peace and regeneration."

The DVD, available in both official languages, highlights the Canadian War Museum to describe its design process from concept to completion. The educational kit teaches students how architectural elements of the building complement the history of Canada during war. The DVD, along with customized learning materials, will be distributed to school boards across the country.

The Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers Program, contributions are made throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based projects.
