Government of Canada Welcomes Canadian Athletes and Raises the Canadian Flag

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 10, 2010) - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages; the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport); and the Honourable Nancy Greene Raine, Senator and Canada's Olympic Ambassador for the 2010 Games, today welcomed Canadian athletes to the Olympic Village and celebrated the raising of the Canadian flag.

"The Games present an unparalleled opportunity to celebrate and showcase Canadian athletic, artistic, and cultural excellence on a national and international scale," said Minister Moore. "I invite all Canadians to show the pride they feel as we experience a historic moment when all the world's attention is on us."

The ceremony was organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). Attending were Canadian athletes and coaches who will take part in the Olympic Games from February 12 to 28.
