Grasshopper Solar Accelerates Growth and Creates Jobs in the Ontario Green Sector

Grasshopper Solar expands its workforce throughout Ontario in Urban and Rural Areas to support the fuelling demand for its Solar Power Systems

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 22, 2010) - Grasshopper Solar, the first and largest Canadian Company to deliver turnkey solutions for the OPA microFIT program, announces today its commitment to adding jobs in the Ontario Green Sector. Grasshopper Solar has created over 50 jobs across Ontario in areas such as Sudbury, Newmarket, Toronto, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Windsor and another five areas in rural Ontario.

Grasshopper Solar recognizes the strong market demand for Solar Power Systems to make Ontario a world leader in the renewable energy sector and is investing in talent across Ontario. The demand for solar power and renewable energy systems grew rapidly after OPA's introduction of the Feed-inTariff (FIT) program in the fall of 2009 and Ontario's provincial government's commitment to invest in the green industry. Grasshopper Solar continues to lead in a province-wide expansion of its installations and is rapidly growing its footprint across Ontario to meet the needs of residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and rural installations.

"Our Solar Power Systems are in demand and our quality of service is our priority" said Azeem Qureshi, CEO of Grasshopper Solar. "Coal plants are scheduled to go offline by 2014 and we are well positioned for rapid growth, and our proven commitment to have an all-Canadian team on board across Ontario. I am prepared to continuously grow our team as long as our demand is sustained. Delivering superior customer service and quality systems through intensive research and engineering while being cost effective makes our Solar Power Systems the best solution for our market".

Grasshopper Solar's accelerated growth comes after its launch of their innovative GS Series™ Solar Power Systems product line. Grasshopper Solar continues to build its turnkey energy portfolio across all market sectors (residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and rural) in Ontario to help their clients take advantage of the OPA's microFIT program. More information on Grasshopper Solar can be found at

About OPA microFIT Program

The microFIT Program is a stream of the Ontario Power Authority's (OPA) Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program for renewable energy in Ontario. It is intended to encourage the development of "microscale" renewable energy projects across the province. Owners of these projects will be paid a fixed price for the electricity they produce. Prices are set at a level intended to enable project owners to recover the costs of the projects, as well as to earn a reasonable return on their investment over the term of the contract. For small solar power systems installed in Ontario equal to or less than 10 kilowatts (kW) the government will pay the system owner at a rate of 80.2 cents ($0.802) for every kilowatt hour (kWh) the system produces for a guaranteed term of 20 years.
