Greenlight Given for the 2008 Mavericks Surf Contest®

Contest Is Called for January 12, 2008

HALF MOON BAY, CA--(Marketwire - January 11, 2008) -

WHAT: Greenlight Alert! Legendary surfer and Contest Director Jeff
Clark has officially called The 2008 Mavericks Surf Contest®
for 8 a.m. on Saturday January 12th. For the first time in
Mavericks Contest history, Mother Nature will deliver a
Contest-worthy swell during the official waiting period over a
weekend. Support from the County of San Mateo, the City of
Half Moon Bay and numerous Contest partners will make this
             historic day possible.

Surfers will compete for a total prize purse of $75,000 and
the title of 2008 Mavericks Surf Contest® Champion. The 2008
Champion will be presented with $30,000 grand prize, a limited
edition REACTOR watch, and a one-of-a kind, hand-shaped Jeff
             Clark surfboard.

Mavericks organizers are encouraging fans to view the free,
livewebcast of the Contest from the comfort of their own homes
or to attend the special live
viewing party at AT&T Park in San Francisco, with webcast
footage displayed on the giant AT&T stadium screen. Given the
difficulty of seeing the event from shore, these alternatives
represent the best viewing options for Mavericks fans. The
groundbreaking webcast will feature multiple cameras and, for
the first time, close-up shots of all the action on the water
from a wireless jet ski cam.

All-day Tickets for the AT&T Park viewing party will include
in-and-out privileges and can be purchased for $20 in advance
at, or for $25 on Saturday at AT&T Park.

About Mavericks™

Every winter season, Mother Nature churns up the north Pacific, occasionally generating the supremely harsh conditions and the giant, unpredictable waves that characterize Mavericks and the annual Mavericks Surf Contest®. Start with the frigid waters, dangerous currents, jagged rocks and the ever-present threat of the great white shark, add in a variety of specific wind, tide, wave and weather conditions, and legendary big-wave pioneer and Contest Director Jeff Clark will make the greenlight call to 24 of the world's best big-wave surfers. Contest Invitees have 24 hours to arrive in Half Moon Bay to face the extreme conditions, thunderous waves and each other. Coined as "the wave beyond," the Mavericks™ brand inspires hardcore athletes to face the unpredictably raw power of Mother Nature, and stirs the souls of those who aspire to challenge their own limits. Mavericks remains true to its core: a cold, mysterious and foreboding place that commands the respect of legends and humbles the strongest of champions.
