HCA MidAmerica Division Selects TeraRecon's AquariusNET

SAN MATEO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 20, 2005 -- TeraRecon announced that HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) (NYSE: HCA) MidAmerica Division has selected and implemented TeraRecon's Aquarius Workstation and AquariusNET Server products in seven of their fourteen hospitals as an enterprise 3D image processing solution. HCA MidAmerica Division, headquartered in Nashville, TN, is comprised of hospitals in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana.

TeraRecon Aquarius Workstations have been placed in strategic locations throughout the HCA MidAmerica division hospital enterprise where image navigation and interpretation are required. The AquariusNET Server systems allow HCA's physicians and technologists to quickly perform advanced 3D post-processing and to interpret patient image data from any PC or suitable PACS diagnostic review station. A single AquariusNET Server empowers an unlimited number of PACS reading stations and standard PCs to rapidly load and interactively manipulate large multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance (MR) studies in real-time, virtually eliminating the need to send these large datasets across a hospital's network. The AquariusNET Servers will be integrated with HCA MidAmerica Division's PACS systems to provide physicians with optimized clinical workflow using a common patient worklist.

TeraRecon's thin-client solution utilizes less network bandwidth than traditional 3D thick-client software approaches, as the entire dataset does not need to be downloaded to each thick 3D workstation over the hospital network. In addition, the AquariusNET Server is the only solution that doesn't require remote PC or PACS review stations to be equipped with extensive amounts of memory, powerful CPUs, or advanced graphics cards. Hence, TeraRecon's offering represents the most powerful, cost-effective and easily deployable 3D solution.

Unlike other 3D technologies where all that can be saved are "secondary capture" images, representing static views of the 3D model, the AquariusNET Server can save an object known as a "Scene" along with the secondary capture view, so that when the Scene is reloaded, the system automatically loads the patient study and re-applies all the edits to the dataset which made the secondary capture image in the first place. This ability to quickly restore and manipulate the volumetric 3D rendered data set improves physician efficiency by eliminating the need to repeat all prior edits of the data to achieve an alternate volumetric view.
