HIPAAT Develops Health Information Privacy Software in Support of 'Meaningful Use' of EHRs

Latest version consent management solution optimizes recommended standards to address privacy requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

NAPLES, FLORIDA--(Marketwire - July 20, 2009) - HIPAAT International (HIPAAT), provider of IT privacy and security solutions to healthcare, today announced the release of version 3.0 of its consent management and auditing software. The new version is designed to help healthcare organizations meet privacy requirements of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of ARRA.

Healthcare organizations must be able to demonstrate "meaningful use" of electronic health records (EHRs) using interoperability standards in order to be eligible for incentive payments under the federal stimulus package. HIPAAT's v3.0 consent management and auditing solution follows Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP)-recommended standards for access control and auditing to address ARRA provisions and improve quality of care.

ARRA addresses the need to protect personal health information (PHI) so that patients are not reluctant to seek care or disclose medical information because of privacy concerns.

HIPAAT's product suite allows patients to create and automate their PHI privacy preferences through simple Web templates. It also enables care delivery organizations and health information exchange organizations (HIOs) to enforce facility and jurisdictional privacy policies. To ensure PHI is available to care providers when needed, override access to restricted PHI is available and audited.

"It is well recognized that electronic health information sharing is key to future cost savings in healthcare," said Terry Callahan, HIPAAT managing director. "But EHRs will fail if consumers lack confidence in the privacy of their PHI and providers lack confidence in the volume and quality of the PHI available to them. Our standards-based solution balances the two to foster patient and provider trust in health information exchange."

HIPAAT provides consent management and security auditing solutions to healthcare. Our SOA-based software balances consumer information privacy with the clinical need to access personal health information. Our interoperable, standards-based approach enables stakeholders at all levels of health data sharing to implement, audit and enforce patient, organizational and jurisdictional privacy policies.
