HRSDC: Appointment to the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2007) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of Mr. Peter Annis as President of the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal (CAPPRT).

"Mr. Annis has built a reputation as a distinguished lawyer," said Minister Blackburn. "The Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal will value his knowledge and experience all the more as he is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation."

Mr. Annis has worked as a lawyer for more than 30 years and is certified by the law society as a specialist in civil litigation. He is currently employed as a sole practitioner focusing on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has also worked as a part-time lecturer with the University of Ottawa's law faculty and is the author of endless law journal articles.

Mr. Annis holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law from Queen's University and a Doctorat d'universite from the Universite d'Aix-en-Provence in France. He is a member of several professional associations including the Ottawa Human Resources Professionals Association, Ottawa's Advocates Society and the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Ontario.

The CAPPRT is an independent quasi-judicial tribunal created in 1995 under the Status of the Artist Act. The mandate of the tribunal is to contribute to Canada's cultural community by encouraging constructive professional relations between artists, as independent entrepreneurs, and producers in the federal jurisdiction.
