Hancock Re-Elected as CUPE Regional Vice-President

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2009) - Mark Hancock of Anmore was recently re-elected as a regional vice-president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Canada's largest union represents over 600,000 members from coast to coast. Earlier this month, two thousand delegates attended CUPE's national convention in Montreal to elect its National officers and develop an action plan for the next two years.

Opposing public-private partnerships, defending Canada's public health care and education systems, and working with local governments to build stronger local economies were some of the key issues at this year's convention.

A highlight of convention was the widespread support, across the country, for the Ambulance Paramedics of B.C. Hancock said this dispute is now on the national agenda and people are talking about it in every province.

Hancock is currently the secretary-treasurer of CUPE British Columbia and will continue to hold both positions.
