Harnessing Spending Power: Shoppers Choose American Cancer Society, Red Cross Haiti Relief Support and Special Olympics to Receive the Most Donations in the New Year

Decreasing-Price Auction Site Biddees.com Reveals Shoppers' Favorite Nonprofits as Charitable Giving Exceeds $300 Billion per Year(1) Despite Harsh Economic Climate

SANTA MONICA, CA--(Marketwire - February 1, 2010) - Biddees.com, the first reverse auction site to provide consumers with an opportunity to buy brand-name gift cards at a guaranteed discount while automatically donating to their favorite nonprofit, has revealed the top charitable donation recipients by the site's shoppers since the start of the new year. Visitors to Biddees.com overwhelmingly chose The American Cancer Society, The Special Olympics and The Red Cross' relief efforts in Haiti to benefit from the automatic microdonation built into their Biddees.com purchases in January 2010.

The choice of the American Cancer Society as an overwhelming favorite for Biddees.com microdonations shows that the fight against cancer continues to be a priority for charitable giving in 2010. With about 1,479,350 new cancer cases estimated in 2009(2), consumer support of research and treatment continues to grow.

Biddees shoppers also reveal the nation's support for relief efforts in Haiti, which has proved to be a huge boost to charitable giving in 2010. The Center on Philanthropy has reported that over $402 million has been raised for the Haitian earthquake relief efforts(3), and consumers continue to search for effective ways to donate while shopping online, dining out or doing other daily activities. Biddees.com presents a 'win-win-win' situation, giving shoppers a guaranteed savings on everyday purchases at their favorite retailers, while donating to nonprofit causes at no additional cost. Biddees has also given brand-name retailers an extra sales channel, through an increasingly popular, consumer-facing online shopping destination.

As the excitement of the new year fades, resolutions to keep up with charitable giving may be weakening. Shoppers looking to boost their karma and donate more to nonprofits should be relieved to learn that giving can be as easy as logging on to buy discount gift cards for their favorite stores. Biddees offers an extensive selection of brand new gift cards and prepaid cards in various denominations from national retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, Gap, Home Depot, iTunes, Macy's, Nordstrom, Staples, Starbucks, Target and Walmart, as well as VISA and MasterCard prepaid cash cards. By providing every visitor to its auction site the opportunity to save, Biddees aims to generate millions of microdonations for nonprofits.

"Biddees has created a business model of benefit to everyone, by harnessing consumer spending power and using it for good," said Steve Adler, CEO at Biddees. "By offering shoppers a chance to save money while shopping their favorite retailers, while simultaneously creating a passive stream of microdonations to nonprofits, we have created an ideal opportunity for consumers to give without changing their daily habits. We are proud to be supporting The American Cancer Society, The Special Olympics and The Red Cross, along with all of our nonprofit partners, and look forward to helping to make a difference where it really counts."

How Biddees.com works

To experience and learn the Biddees process, each new customer is granted several free bid credits known as Little Biddee Things™ (LBTs). When the free LBTs are used up, shoppers can purchase more for 99 cents each. Fifteen percent of each LBT purchased goes to a nonprofit organization selected by the customer from a growing list of nonprofits on Biddees.com. To view the price of any card, which always starts at least $1.50 less than its face value, a customer uses one LBT. Every time a customer views the current price of a card, the price automatically drops by another 50 cents. Upon viewing the price, the customer has the exclusive right to purchase the card at the new lower price, within 30 seconds. If the customer decides not to purchase the card, it becomes available to the next participant. A quick check-out process completes the purchase, and Biddees sends the card to the customer with no sales tax and free shipping.

An auction ends when someone purchases a card or when its price reaches zero, and the last person gets the card for free. Shoppers save money through a simple process that allows $25, $50, $100 and $500 cards to sell for far less than face-value, while donating to a cause. The no-risk website offers a fun way to save at big-name retail outlets.
