Hartsfield-Jackson Announces Social Media Contest to 'Name the Train'

Participants Suggest Names for World's Busiest Airport Train via YouTube and Facebook

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2010) -  Today may be April 1, but this contest is no joke. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is inviting the public to come up with a name for its automated people mover (APM) inside the terminal.

The Airport today kicks off "Name the Train," a four-week social media contest to select an official name for the busiest airport train in the world. The APM is the primary connection for more than 200,000 daily passengers between the terminal and the six concourses.

"The APM is the backbone of the Airport's overall efficiency and has been since it went into service 30 years ago," said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta. "So, to celebrate 30 years of service, we want our customers who rely on it every day to 'Name the Train!'"

To enter the contest, participants watch a new video featuring a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the APM system and then post suggested names for the train as comments on the video. The video is posted on the Airport's YouTube channel ( and its Facebook fan page (

"We wanted to make this a fun contest open to as many people as possible," said Myrna White, director of the Office of Public Affairs. "Using our social media channels is a great way to really let our customers participate in this one-of-a-kind event."

The participant whose entry is selected will win a $100 American Express gift card and a certificate of recognition bearing the winner's name and the new name for the APM. The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. April 28. The contest winner will be notified via the social media user account through which he or she submitted the entry.
