Hearst Corporation Names Kristine Shine President of San Francisco Chronicle

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jan 6, 2014) - Kristine Shine was today named president of the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate.com, the Bay Area's most-read sources of local and national news, reaching 22 million users around the world each month. The announcement was made by Hearst Corporation President and CEO Steven R. Swartz and Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam.

Since 2008, Shine, 43, served as chief revenue officer at POPSUGAR -- a leading digital lifestyle brand for women -- and begins her new role with the Chronicle and SFGate on January 20.

Commenting on the announcement, Swartz said, "Kristine and Chronicle Publisher Jeff Johnson will be a formidable team to continue enhancing the Bay Area's experience with the Chronicle and SFGate brands. We welcome her to Hearst and look forward to the impact she will make."

"Kristine has the experience to effectively build our digital businesses in a rapidly expanding market," Aldam said. "In addition to her hands-on sales development background, Kristine has proactively developed new product experiences to connect brands with the audiences they want to reach. We are very excited to have Kristine join forces with Jeff Johnson to lead the Chronicle and SFGate."

While serving as CRO at POPSUGAR, Shine also served as vice president of sales from 2008 to 2010, developing POPSUGAR's go-to-market and sales strategy and delivering high double-digit revenue growth year after year. POPSUGAR delivers up-to-the-minute news and information on the latest in entertainment, fashion, beauty, fitness, shopping, and more, and targets women 18-40, delivering more than 20 million monthly unique visitors worldwide.

"The San Francisco Chronicle is a highly respected and innovative brand," Shine said. "I look forward to working with Jeff and the entire team to continue to expand the Chronicle's footprint and enhance the way we connect to Bay Area residents digitally and in print."

Prior to POPSUGAR, Shine served as vice president of sales at Spot Runner in 2008, and as director of sales for Microsoft from 2004 to 2008. She founded her own papery storefront and website in 2002, and successfully sold the business in 2004. Previously, she held online and print sales positions at BusinessWeek, and began her career in print advertising at Icon International.

Shine succeeds former president Joanne Bradford, who left the Chronicle in November.

She has a bachelor's degree in communication and media studies from Marist College.
