Heather Rogers, Author of "Green Gone Wrong" Comes to TOWN HALL on Earth Day

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - April 12, 2010) - In celebration of Earth Day, TOWN HALL Los Angeles presents journalist and author, Heather Rogers, who will discuss her latest book "Green Gone Wrong: How Our Economy is Undermining the Environmental Revolution," Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the TOWN HALL Los Angeles Clubhouse in downtown Los Angeles.

The book will be released on April 20th. Publishers Weekly writes that Rogers leads readers into "'forests, fields, factories, and showrooms around the world to draw out the unintended consequences, inherent obstacles, as well as successful methods that lie beneath the surface of environmentally friendly products'; her discoveries are disturbing. She finds organic farmers from the Hudson Valley to Paraguay frustrated by their difficulty in making a living; the dilution of USDA organic standards; and laxity, cheating, and conflict of interest among organic certification companies."

Rogers asks, "What are the decisions governments are making? What decisions are manufacturers making? And, how do we go into the realm of understanding ourselves as political actors and agents in our lives and not just consumers?"

A journalist and author, Rogers has written for the New York Times Magazine, Mother Jones, and The Nation. Her first book, "Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage," traces the history and politics of household garbage in the United States. The US is the planet's No. 1 producer of trash; each American throws out 4.5 pounds daily. Packaging accounts for the single largest category of household waste taking up 30 percent of all landfill space in the US.
